Day 1: Ulaanbaatar
Upon your arrival at the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport in Mongolia, you will meet the Mongolei Reisen crew and transfer to the 4 star hotel, conveniently situated in downtown
Ulaanbaatar. After freshening up from your trip, we will spend the day with a walking tour of some of the capital’s most noteworthy sites starting out at the Museum of National History where you’ll encounter exhibits highlighting the amazing history of the Mongolian people. The museum has several interested exhibits of national costumes and some artifacts from time of Chinggis Khaan. From the museum, it’s a short walk to the heart of Ulaanbaatar, Sukhbaatar Square. Here we will see the statue of Sukhbaatar, the hero of the Mongolian revolution, the Parliament house, National Opera, and City Hall. found. In the evening, you will attend a performance of traditional dancing and singing. Mongolia is best known for the traditional form of throat singing, khoomii, and the horse-headed fiddle that accompanies many traditional songs. Overnight in hotel (L, D)
Day 2: Bayanhongor aimag
We’ll start our trip with a local flight to the aimag Bayankhongor. On arrival at the desert airstrip you will be taken to camp at Shargaljuut, the large mineral hotsprings, located 60 km to the north-east of Bayankhongor town, on the bank of the Shargaljuut River (2000m) Shargaljuut has more than 300 mineral water sprouts and sources with water temperatures of +45 to +96 degrees celcius. The springs have been a source of natural healing for Mongolians for centuries. Overnight in tents (B, L, D)
Day 3: Khurkh Tiver
After a breakfast the bike trip gets underway. We’ll ride 14 kilometers over fairly rough terrain to Nariin Jalga Valley, stopping for a picnic lunch with a panoramic view at the top of Elbekh Pass, situated at 2712 meters above sea level. From here we enjoy a nice downhill ride to the pristine Khukh River. Overnight in tents (B, L, D)
Day 4: Bayanzurkh Mountain
Refreshed from our evening break, we’ll experience an exhilarating ride up Bayanzurkh Mountain, offering stunning views from the peak. The descent can be challenging as you ride over the bumpy, stone-ridden trail. Overnight in tents (B, L, D)
Day 5: Orkhon Waterfall
Gradually we descend from the mountains and enter the Orkhon River Valley, prehistoric cradle of Central Asia’s nomadic civilization. We’ll traverse the Orkhon River and ride a 22 kilometers towards the majestic Orkhon waterfall – setting up camp next to its thundering cascades. Before camping, there will be time to explore the crevices and volcanic formations in the area. Overnight in tents (B, L, D)
Day 6: Karakorum
Setting off from the waterfall early in the morning, we’ll cross the Orkhon River once again and bike another 95 kilometers over sandy terrain to Karakorum, the former capital of Chinggis Khaan’s great empire. He we’ll tour the famous Erdene Zuu Buddhist Monastery, a vast religious complex surrounded by 108 stupas that was established on the ruins of Karakorum in 1586 by Abtai Sain Khan. We’ll rest from our ride and spend some time to wander around and enjoy the exquisite architecture and works of art contained within the Monastery Museum. We’ll camp 10 kilometres out of town, on the bank of the Orkhon River. Overnight in tents (B, L, D)
Day 7: Olgii Lake
Today’s ride will take us through a hilly area towards Olgii Lake, renowned for its birdwatching and fishing opportunities. We’ll arrive at the lake with enough time to cool off in the water before camping on the banks. Overnight in tents (B, L, D)
Day 8: Ulaanbaatar city
We’ll drive back to Ulaanbaatar on one of only paved roads in the countryside of Mongolia and check into the hotel for a well-deserved shower and rest! Overnight in hotel (B, L, D)
Day 9: Departure
Our adventure together ends with your transfer back to the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport for your departure.
