The one of the endangered cattle species is two humped Bactrian camel in Mongolia, where
thenumber heads radically decreased, since 1995. The Bactrian camel breeds once in 2 years, where it gives 250-300 liters of good quality milk and wools. In Mongolia, the woolen products from camel wool are quite popular used in blanket, shirts, jackets, socks and gloves.
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar city
Upon your arrival at the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport in Mongolia, you will meet the Mongolei Reisen crew and transfer to the 4 star hotel, conveniently situated in downtown Ulaanbaatar. After freshening up from your trip, we will spend the day with a walking tour of some of the capital’s most noteworthy sites starting out at the Museum of National History where you’ll encounter exhibits highlighting the amazing history of the Mongolian people. The museum has several interested exhibits of national costumes and some artifacts from time of Chinggis Khaan. From the museum, it’s a short walk to the heart of Ulaanbaatar, Sukhbaatar Square. Here we will see the statue of Sukhbaatar, the hero of the Mongolian revolution, the Parliament house, National Opera, and City Hall. Afterwards we’ll visit Zaisan Hill, which offers great views of the city. In the evening, you will attend a performance of traditional dancing and singing. Mongolia is best known for the traditional form of throat singing, khoomii, and the horse-headed fiddle that accompanies many traditional songs. Overnight in hotel (L, D)
Day 2: South Gobi
We’ll start our trip with an early-morning flight to the South Gobi Desert, a dramatic landscape of mountains, rock and sand, dotted with grazing camels and herders’ gers. We’ll visit the remarkable “Vulture’s Gorge” within the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park, an exotic setting of green meadows and dense glaciers situated deep within the arid Gobi. At times, the caverns fill with several meters of ice, forming a stark contrast to the desert surrounding it. If were lucky, we might see some of this area’s abundant wildlife, including the rare argali sheep and mountain goat. Overnight in ger camp (B, L, D)
Day 3: Flaming Cliffs
One of Mongolia’s more visited sites is the rock formations at Bayanzag. In the 1920s American scientist and adventurer Roy Chapman Andrews’s discovered a complete nest of dinosaur eggs at the location turning it, and Mongolia, into one of the world’s top palaeontological research locations. We’ll spend some time exploring the cliffs and then
head out to the Khongoryn Els Sand Dunes where an extraordinary mountain of sand rises up to 120 metres above the desert, continuing for some 180 kilometres. Overnight in ger camp (B, L, D)
Day 4: Camel Breeders
We spend the day visiting a family of nomadic camel-breeders, learning about their lifestyle and daily activities. The adventurously palated will have an opportunity to tase traditional foods and camel milk products, and you can try your hand at camel riding, on one of Mongolia’s two-humped Bactrian Camels. Overnight in ger camp (B, L, D)
Day 5 – 8: Camel trek
We begin our four day camel trek at the ger camp and travel first to Adag Lake near the sand dunes. From here we continue to Chono Shurguul – a grove of trees in the middle of the vast desert terrain. As we travel through the remote and unspoiled area, we will see several sites of interest including sand dunes, a hidden valley of Saxaul trees, and nomadic families. On day 8 we conclude our trek in the Sevrei Mountain range and enjoy some free time for hiking or relaxing. Overnight in tents (B, L, D)
Day 9: Vulture’s Gorge
After the camel trek, we’ll spend the day touring the magnificent Gobi Gurvan Saikhan national park where we’ll visit the remarkable “Vulture’s Gorge” within the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park, an exotic setting of green meadows and dense glaciers situated deep within the arid Gobi. Day 10: Ulaanbaatar city
We fly back to Ulaanbaatar and transfer to the hotel for some much need rest and relaxation. In the afternoon, we will visit some interesting museums including the Winter Palace of the Bogd Khaan. This was the residence of Mongolia’s last Buddhist king until 1924, and now a museum displaying exotic Buddhist items an interesting collection of gifts
the King received during his life. The remainder of the day is free for shopping or independent touring. After dinner, we’ll attend a performance of an ensemble performance of Mongolian folk art. Overnight in hotel (B, L, D)
Day 11: Terelj National Park
In the morning we drive to Terelj National Park, located within the Khan Khentii Mountains to the East of Ulaanbaatar. The park is famed by locals and tourists alike for the natural beauty of the location along with the wide variety of natural species of plants and animals. A short horse ride will take us to some interesting rock formations. Overnight in ger camp (B, L, D)
Day 12: Ulaanbaatar
We spend the day back in Ulaanbaatar with free time for shopping or sightseeing. Overnight in hotel (B, L, D)
Day 13: Departure
Our adventure together ends with your transfer back to the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport for your departure.
