Day 1: Ulaanbaatar cityÂ
Upon your arrival at the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport in Mongolia, you will meet t
he Mongolei Reisen crew and transfer to the 4 star hotel, conveniently situated in downtown Ulaanbaatar. Although Naadam officially begins on the 11th, preparations are well underway and some events, such as the archery and horseracing, being on the 10th.We’ll attend the opening of the Buryatstyle archery competition, which is unique among Naadam events in being open to men and women. Next to the archery, we’ll check out the ankle bone shooting competition, popular with young and old competitors alike. Then we’ll travel outside the city to the race course where will join thousands of Mongolians to cheer on the youngest group of horses who compete on the first day. The race is truly memorable, and dangerous, as hundreds of child-jockeys gallop bareback over the 20km course.

Days 2 – 3: Naadam Festival
Experience the magnificent celebrations at the Central Stadium – beginning with the mountedescort of Genghis Khaan’s nine standards from the Government House. Enjoy the colourful parades and musical entertainment of the official opening ceremony, followed by an address by the President of Mongolia. Watch as hundreds of wrestlers take to the field in the stadium centre for a two-day contest of skill and strength – testing the classic virtues of the ancient Mongol warrior – while archers compete for the title of best sharp shooter, and long-distance horse-races continue in the nearby countryside.

Day 4 – 5: Gun Galuutain Nature Reserve
After breakfast, a short two-hour drive will take us to the stunning Gun Galuutain Nature Reserve, nestled in the Khentii Mountains. We’ll spend the afternoon fly-fishing on the Kherlen River, with its abundance of rare fish species – including the Taimen salmon, Lenok trout, Silurid catfish and pike. You can also enjoy the unforgettable opportunity to meet with local nomadic families and learn about Mongolia’s ancient nomadic lifestyle.

Day 6: Terelj National Park
In the morning, we drive to Terelj National Park, located within the Khan Khentii Mountains to the East of Ulaanbaatar. Terelj is a beautiful setting where you can enjoy the natural scenery of this forested area, home to wolves, deer, bears and wild boars. We’ll also tour the curious rock formations known as the “turtle rock”, and visit a local nomadic family.

Day 7: Ulaanbaatar
The journey concludes in Ulaanbaatar, with the remainder of the day free for rest or shopping. After dinner, we’ll attend a performance of an ensemble performance of Mongolian folk art. Overnight in hotel (B, L, D)
